The 2026 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship drew to a dramatic close at the Circuito de Jerez‑Ángel Nieto on Sunday, and it was Nicolo Bulega who took centre stage. The Italian delivered a faultless performance across both Sunday races to seal a clean sweep at the final round, ending his WorldSBK tenure with a record‑breaking campaign that saw him stand on the podium in every single race. There was late drama in WorldSSP and a title decider in World Sportbike to round out the day.
WorldSBK — Bulega Perfect in Final Weekend
Tissot Superpole Race — Podium Record Broken

Bulega wasted no time asserting his authority in the morning’s ten‑lap sprint. From pole, he nailed the holeshot and led every lap to claim victory — his 35th podium of the season, establishing a new benchmark for the most top‑three finishes in a single WorldSBK campaign.
Behind him, Iker Lecuona made a strong start to slip ahead of Sam Lowes at Turn 6 and held second to the line, finishing just 0.797s behind his teammate. Lowes completed the podium, four and a half seconds further back.

“What a way to finish,” Bulega said. “The team has done an incredible job — five amazing years together, and this last one has been something really special. Our worst result all season was second place. The results speak for themselves. Winning the last three races here means everything — I wanted to leave this paddock with more wins, and we’ve done that.”
Race 2 — Teammates Clear Field
The longer 20‑lap Race 2 proved equally dominant. Lecuona led through the opening six corners before Bulega dived past under braking to take control. From that moment, the Ducati pair pulled away together, crossing the line more than 13 seconds clear of the rest.

Further back, Alvaro Bautista — riding his final race for Barni Spark — rocketed into third at the start and held the spot for the majority of the distance. As spots of rain began to fall, Sam Lowes grew in confidence and made a decisive move on the final half‑lap to snatch third by just over a second. Bautista settled for fourth, ahead of teammate Yari Montella.
Ducati riders occupied the top six positions, with Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani — both Bimota — the first non‑Ducati finishers in seventh and tenth respectively.
“I changed a few things with my riding style and the bike setup this weekend,” Lecuona explained. “I felt fast and was closing the gap to Nicolo, but then the rain arrived and the rear tyre dropped off. I decided to settle for second — still a strong finish to the season.”
“I struggled at the start but found my rhythm,” Sam Lowes said of his late charge. “I managed the front tyre better in the second half and took my chance when it mattered. Really happy to end the year on the podium.”

WorldSSP — Alcoba Wins Red‑Flagged Finale, Secures Third

The WorldSSP season ended in dramatic fashion. Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki) took the lead at Turn 6 on lap 12, capitalising on contact between teammates Dominique Aegerter and Matteo Ferrari that slowed both. He was pulling clear when the red flag flew on lap 13 after Jorge Navarro crashed heavily at Turn 8.
Earlier in the race, newly crowned champion Albert Arenas was eliminated in a lap‑two incident with Tom Booth‑Amos — the PTR Triumph rider lost control at Turn 6 and collided with the race leader. Both were unhurt but out of the race.
The result gave Alcoba third in the championship — beating Can Oncu by 11 points after they started the finale level on points. Aegerter was second, Ferrari third, and Oncu fourth.
“I saw Domi and Matteo run wide and I went through,” Alcoba said. “I was pushing to build a gap when the red flag came out. I’m so proud of this team — we fought all season and we deserve this.”

World Sportbike — Thompson Wins, Artigas Takes Inaugural Title

Carter Thompson (Team BrCorse) claimed his second win of the season in the 11‑lap Sportbike finale, breaking clear of a ten‑strong lead group to finish more than four seconds ahead of Antonio Torres. But the day belonged to Xavi Artigas, who finished eighth — enough to secure the inaugural WorldSPB title by eight points over David Salvador, who crossed the line fourth but missed out on the crown.
“We’ve come so far this year,” Thompson said. “To finish with a win is incredible. I can’t thank the team enough.”
Artigas ended the season with four victories and six podiums, completing a remarkable comeback from 35 points down mid‑season to take the title.

Season Over — What a 2026 Delivered
The chequered flag has fallen on an unforgettable 2026 campaign. Bulega was untouchable throughout, winning 32 races and never finishing off the podium. Artigas wrote his name into the history books as the first WorldSPB champion, while Arenas dominated WorldSSP. Now attention turns to 2027 — with new riders, new challenges, and plenty of questions to answer.
