The Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia delivered a spectacular Sunday across all three classes. Marco Bezzecchi ended his victory drought to reignite his title hopes, Aprilia scored a historic one‑two‑three‑four, and Maximo Quiles sealed the Moto3 crown with five rounds still to race. Here’s the full story from a record‑breaking weekend at Mandalika.
MotoGP: Bezzecchi Takes Win, Fernandez Heroic, Martin Retakes Championship Lead

Clean Start, Early Battles
Unlike the chaos of the Sprint, Turn 1 passed without incident when the lights went out. Polesitter Raul Fernandez held the lead despite a bold lunge from Marco Bezzecchi on the inside line. Marc Marquez settled into third, while Fermin Aldeguer — winner here in 2025 — moved ahead of Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio to occupy fourth.
Martin wasted no time recovering, moving past Di Giannantonio before setting his sights on Marquez. By Lap 3 he was through at Turn 10, demoting the reigning champion to fourth, with Pedro Acosta now closing fast. Acosta pounced on Marquez at Turn 10 on Lap 6, executing a late‑braking move that sent the Ducati rider back to fifth and under pressure from Di Giannantonio.
Fernandez Leads, Bezzecchi Charges
Up front, Fernandez clung to the lead by roughly half a second — an extraordinary effort considering he was racing with two broken fingers sustained in the Sprint crash. Bezzecchi chipped away lap by lap, setting a string of fastest sectors before taking the lap record with a 1’29.991s. The gap shrank to 0.4s, then vanished entirely on Lap 19.
Bezzecchi made his move stick, sweeping past into the lead and immediately pulling clear by 1.4s as Fernandez ran slightly wide on the exit. Martin sat third, 2.4s behind Fernandez and safely ahead of the chasing pack.
Mid‑Race Turns — Marquez Slips Back
The fight for fourth became a race within a race. Marquez reclaimed the position from Acosta on Lap 13, only to lose it again — and then drop behind Ai Ogura — as tyre pressure issues affected multiple riders. Ogura and Acosta went wheel‑to‑wheel for several laps, the Japanese rider eventually prevailing at Turn 16 to take fifth. Marquez was left sixth, watching his championship lead slip away.
History Made — Aprilia 1‑2‑3‑4
Bezzecchi crossed the line 3.3s clear to claim his first win since Mugello and keep his title aspirations alive. Fernandez finished a magnificent second, his grit and determination earning him a standing ovation. Martin took third — enough to retake the championship lead by two points as Marquez could only manage sixth. Ogura fended off Acosta on the final lap to secure fourth, sealing Aprilia’s first ever 1‑2‑3‑4 in MotoGP competition.

Moto2: Guevara Wins Hat‑Trick — Escrig Heartbreak, Gonzalez Closes Gap

Turn 1 Chaos — Red Flag Restart
The Moto2 race barely got underway before drama struck. Four riders crashed at the opening corner: David Alonso and Daniel Holgado came together, taking out Joe Roberts and Collin Veijer in the chain reaction. Alonso’s bike suffered severe damage and he was out; the other three returned to the pits for the restart, though Roberts later withdrew with a rear brake issue.
Escrig Leads Before Late Technical Failure
On the restart, Alex Escrigrig seized the holeshot and led Izan Guevara by 0.8s as they pulled clear of the field. Manuel Gonzalez recovered from tenth on the grid to climb to fourth by Lap 7 and third shortly after, chipping away at his title rival’s advantage. The gap was closing — then, with two laps remaining, Escrig slowed with a technical problem, handing the lead to Guevara.
Guevara Takes It — Title Gap Down to 6.5 Points
Guevara cruised to his third consecutive victory, while Gonzalez settled for second and limited the points lost. Holgado completed the podium after his early crash, and Senna Agius charged from 13th to fourth in an impressive comeback ride. The title gap is now just 6.5 points in Gonzalez’s favour heading into the final stretch.

Moto3: Quiles Crowned — Champion with Five Races Remaining

Perfect Title Sealing Performance
Maximo Quiles made history in the lightweight class, securing the championship with a dominant victory — and with five rounds still left on the calendar. He joins an elite group including Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini and Marc Marquez as only the fourth rider ever to clinch a world title so early in the season.
Almansa led from the start but Quiles moved ahead on Lap 2 and began to pull clear. A brief mistake at Turn 16 allowed Almansa to close to within 1.6s, but Quiles regrouped and extended his advantage to 2.8s by the flag. Almansa took second, while Brian Uriarte passed Matteo Bertelle on the final lap for third.
Quiles’ 10th win of the season confirmed the crown in the most decisive fashion possible. The championship is settled, but the fight for the remaining podium positions and personal honours continues.
