The 2026 British Superbike Championship Showdown delivered a weekend of high drama at Donington Park, with Kyle Ryde celebrating a dominant victory in the Sprint before a mechanical failure handed Scott Redding a crucial win in Race Three. The title gap has narrowed — and with only the final round remaining, the fight could not be tighter. Here’s the full story from a Sunday that shifted the balance of the season.

Race Two — Ryde Fights Back for Sprint Double

The Start — Vickers Leads Early From Ryde and Redding

Fresh from victory in Race One, Ryde lined up on pole for the 12‑lap Sprint, but it was Ryan Vickers who rocketed off the line to snatch the holeshot. Scott Redding also got the better of the championship leader, slotting into second and leaving Ryde third as they streamed through the opening sequence.

Ryde didn’t panic. He sized up Redding immediately, launching his first attack through Coppice — the same corner where he had made his move in Race One — and edged ahead by the end of Lap 1. He then hunted down Vickers, diving past through the Melbourne Loop to reclaim the lead before the field had even settled.

Safety Car Period — Haslam Taken Off Track

Disaster struck on Lap 2 as Rory Skinner lost control while attempting an overtake and collided with Leon Haslam, sending the Moto Rapido Ducati rider off the circuit. Haslam required medical attention and was removed from the track on a stretcher, prompting the safety car to deploy. Racing resumed at the end of Lap 4, and Redding wasted no time: he passed Vickers at Redgate to move into second and set his sights on Ryde.

Late Error Exchange — Ryde Holds On

The lead changed hands in dramatic fashion on Lap 5. Ryde ran wide through the Melbourne Loop, handing the advantage to Redding — only for the #45 to make a mistake of his own moments later, gifting first place back. From there, Ryde knuckled down and built a cushion of over a second, though Redding fought back on the final tour, closing right onto his tail through the last complex. Ryde held firm to win by just 0.283s — his second victory of the weekend.

Vickers completed the podium despite riding with significant back pain, the result of a failed stoppie celebration during qualifying. He had relied on painkillers and physio to get through the session, and fought off late pressure from Bradley Ray to secure third. Ray finished fourth, unable to find a way past on the final lap.

Bimota Battle — Cook Edges Talbot

Fifth place went down to the wire as Max Cook waited until Lap 8 to make his decisive move on teammate Joe Talbot, who took top rookie honours in sixth. Lee Jackson was seventh for DAO Racing, ahead of Glenn Irwin and Danny Kent, who completed the top nine. Jason O’Halloran fended off rookie Ilya Mikhalchik to claim tenth.

Further back, Storm Stacey finished 12th, while Rhys Irwin took 13th. Post‑race penalties reshuffled the lower points: Josh Brookes was demoted to 14th for gaining a position under the safety car, with Andrew Irwin 15th.

Retirements included Eugene McManus and Fraser Rogers, who collided on Lap 6, and Christian Iddon, who crashed out at Redgate at the start of Lap 9.

Race Three — Red Flag Drama as Ryde Retires, Redding Wins

Cook Leads Early — Ryde Out Front Then Fades

The final race of the weekend began with Max Cook launching from the second row to lead through Turn 1, with Scott Redding and Ryan Vickers moving past polesitter Ryde in the opening exchanges. Ryde settled into fourth and began working his way forward, but the complexion changed on Lap 5 as Redding dived underneath Cook to take the lead, capitalising on a wider line through the sweeping sequence.

Redding steadily built a gap, unaware that behind him the title picture was unravelling. On Lap 10, Ryde began to slow on the back straight — an electrical issue robbing him of power. He briefly recovered speed on the slip road, but race officials showed him the black flag for failing to maintain racing pace. It was his first retirement in 89 races — a run stretching back to Oulton Park in 2024 — and it handed the initiative firmly to Redding.

Late Crash Brings Red Flag — Result Declared

Redding was cruising clear by the final lap, holding a lead of 2.254s, when Glenn Irwin crashed at Starkey’s Bridge, sliding across the gravel and bringing out the red flag. Irwin was able to walk to the medical vehicle unaided, but the result was declared based on the standings at the penultimate lap — confirming Redding as the winner.

Cook held on for second, his first podium finish in several races, while Vickers completed the rostrum once again — a remarkable effort given his back injury. Bradley Ray was fourth, and Rory Skinner recovered impressively from his earlier penalty to climb ten places and take fifth.

Talbot was again top rookie in sixth, ahead of a tight group led by Danny Kent in seventh. Christian Iddon and Glenn Irwin had been battling for position before the latter’s crash, leaving Ilya Mikhalchik to take ninth and Lee Jackson tenth.

DNF: Kyle Ryde (black flag / electrical), Glenn Irwin (crash), Leon Haslam (withdrawn), Fraser Rogers, Eugene McManus, Richard Kerr.
