Record-Breaking Run Continues for Ducati Star
Nicolo Bulega continued his extraordinary 2026 campaign with another flawless weekend at Balaton Park, completing a clean sweep across all races and extending his historic winning streak.
The Italian rider’s latest hat-trick not only underlines his complete control of the WorldSBK field but also cements his place in the record books. With victory in every race so far this season, Bulega has set a new benchmark for early-season dominance in the championship.
Superpole Race Drama: Red Flag and Injury Concerns
Early Incident Brings Race to a Halt
The Superpole Race began with immediate drama, as a multi-rider crash at Turn 5 on the opening lap forced a red flag. The incident involved Miguel Oliveira and Andrea Locatelli, with Oliveira coming off worst.
The Portuguese rider was ruled out for the remainder of the day after being diagnosed with a concussion and a left shoulder injury. He was transported to a nearby hospital for further checks, raising concerns about his participation in upcoming rounds.
Locatelli, deemed responsible for the incident, was handed a double long lap penalty, effectively ending his chances of scoring meaningful points.
Restart Sees Familiar Battle at the Front
When the race resumed, it quickly returned to a familiar pattern. Bulega and teammate Iker Lecuona broke away from the field, establishing a clear gap within the opening laps.
Over the shortened eight-lap sprint, Bulega controlled the pace to secure yet another victory, his fifteenth in a row across all races. Lecuona followed home in second, while Lorenzo Baldassarri completed the podium after a strong ride from the front row.
Further back, Tarran Mackenzie claimed the final point in ninth, securing a third-row grid start for Race 2. Meanwhile, both Locatelli and Sam Lowes finished outside the points, pushing them down the starting order.
Race 2: Bulega Seals the Hat-Trick in Style
Perfect Start Sets the Tone
Starting from pole once again, Bulega made a clean getaway and took the holeshot into Turn 1, immediately asserting control over the race. Lecuona stayed close in the early stages, applying pressure and keeping the gap within reach.
However, as the race progressed, Bulega gradually stretched his advantage, showcasing superior race management and consistency over the 21-lap distance.
Ducati One-Two Dominance Continues
The factory Ducati pairing once again proved untouchable, securing their ninth consecutive one-two finish. While Lecuona remained competitive, particularly in the first half of the race, physical fatigue began to take its toll in the closing laps, allowing Bulega to pull clear.
The result further emphasizes Ducati’s current superiority in WorldSBK, both in terms of rider performance and machine capability.
Montella Shines with Hard-Fought Podium
Yari Montella delivered an impressive performance to secure third place, marking his second podium finish of the season.
Starting from fifth on the grid, Montella positioned himself well during a chaotic opening lap and quickly settled into third. Despite struggling with rear tyre wear in the latter stages, he showed composure under pressure to hold off Baldassarri and secure a well-earned podium.
Battles Behind the Leaders
Baldassarri and Bautista Clash Early
Baldassarri’s race was far from straightforward. An early clash with Alvaro Bautista added drama to the opening laps, but the Italian recovered well to finish fourth.
Gerloff Breaks Into the Top Five
Garrett Gerloff put in a strong ride to claim fifth position, overtaking Alberto Surra at mid-distance.
Surra ultimately crossed the line in seventh, capping off a consistent weekend with three solid finishes inside the top eight.
Championship Picture: Bulega in Command
Bulega’s perfect run continues to reshape the championship standings. He now holds a commanding 82-point lead, placing him firmly in control of the title race at this early stage of the season.
In the manufacturers’ standings, Ducati’s dominance is equally striking. With a maximum points haul from the opening rounds, they have built a massive 140-point advantage over their closest rivals.
A difficult Race 2 for Bimota, following a technical issue for Axel Bassani and a crash for Alex Lowes, further widened the gap.
Riders React to a Dramatic Weekend
Bulega described the weekend as one of his most satisfying victories, particularly given the technical challenges of Balaton Park, a circuit that doesn’t naturally suit his riding style. His ability to adapt and still dominate highlights his current form and confidence.
Lecuona admitted that illness and physical fatigue impacted his performance, especially in the latter stages of the race. Despite this, he remains encouraged by his pace and competitive position within the team.
Montella, meanwhile, praised his team’s progress, highlighting improvements made since earlier rounds and expressing confidence in maintaining momentum going forward.

WorldSSP: Arenas Leads Yamaha Charge in Balaton Battle

Strategic Duel Decides Race 2 Victory
In the WorldSSP class, Albert Arenas delivered a measured and tactical performance to secure victory in Race 2, leading a strong showing for Yamaha.
The race developed into a prolonged duel between Arenas and Can Oncu, with the latter controlling the early stages. Oncu led for the majority of the race before Arenas made his decisive move with just four laps remaining.
From that point on, Arenas defended expertly, crossing the line 0.419 seconds ahead to claim an important win.
Garcia Claims Maiden Podium
Roberto Garcia secured his first WorldSSP podium with a composed ride to third. The young Spaniard remained under constant pressure throughout the race but maintained consistency to finish just half a second behind the winner.
The result marks a significant milestone in his career, particularly after the disappointment of crashing out of the lead in Race 1.
Masia’s Recovery Drive Highlights Determination
Starting from 25th on the grid, Jaume Masia produced one of the standout rides of the race.
Despite a challenging weekend following a Superpole crash, he carved his way through the field, reaching the top ten by Lap 2 and eventually finishing fifth. While not enough to retain the championship lead, it was a performance that demonstrated resilience and racecraft.
Early Retirements Shake Up the Field
The race saw early drama with Philipp Oettl crashing out at Turn 5, while Race 1 winner Valentin Debise was forced to retire due to a technical issue.
These incidents played a key role in reshaping both the race outcome and the championship standings.

Final Thoughts
The Hungarian round delivered a mix of dominance and drama across both WorldSBK and WorldSSP. While Bulega continues to set an almost untouchable pace at the front of the Superbike field, the competition behind him remains fierce.
In Supersport, the fight is far more open, with multiple riders and manufacturers in contention as the season progresses.
With momentum building and rivalries intensifying, the championship now heads into its next phase with plenty still to play for — even if one rider is currently rewriting the record books.
