Ducati Star Continues Championship Charge as Aruba.it Racing Secures Another One-Two Finish
Nicolo Bulega strengthened his grip on the 2026 WorldSBK Championship with another commanding performance at MotorLand Aragon, converting pole position into victory in the opening race of the weekend and maintaining his flawless winning record this season.
The Aruba.it Racing Ducati rider once again demonstrated why he has emerged as the benchmark of the championship, controlling the race from the front and leading teammate Iker Lecuona to a remarkable thirteenth consecutive one-two finish for the factory Ducati squad.
Under scorching Spanish temperatures that pushed both riders and machinery to their limits, Bulega delivered a measured and intelligent ride, combining outright speed with effective tyre management to secure yet another crucial victory in his title campaign.
With every passing round, the Italian is building momentum and confidence, while Ducati’s dominance continues to cast a long shadow over the rest of the WorldSBK field.
Bulega Controls Race from Start to Finish
Championship Leader Executes Perfect Strategy
Starting from pole position after another impressive Superpole performance earlier in the day, Bulega immediately established himself at the front of the field.
Alongside teammate Lecuona, the Ducati duo quickly separated themselves from the chasing pack and spent the entire 18-lap contest controlling the race.
While the gap between the two factory riders fluctuated throughout the race, Bulega always appeared to have the situation under control.
His strategy was clear from the opening laps: build an early advantage, manage tyre degradation during the middle stages and preserve enough performance to respond if challenged in the closing laps.
The plan worked perfectly.
Although Lecuona managed to reduce the deficit during the latter stages, Bulega crossed the finish line 1.2 seconds clear to claim another maximum points haul.
The victory further reinforces his position at the top of the championship standings and extends what is rapidly becoming one of the most dominant starts to a WorldSBK season in recent years.
Lecuona Delivers Strong Home Performance
Spaniard Secures Another Podium for Ducati
For Iker Lecuona, second place represented another highly encouraging result at his home circuit.
The Spanish rider endured a challenging opening phase of the race as he struggled to fully exploit the grip available from the fresh tyres.
Several moments during the opening laps forced him onto the defensive, but once tyre wear began to stabilise, his pace improved significantly.
As the race entered its final third, Lecuona began reducing the gap to Bulega and briefly threatened to bring himself into contention for victory.
However, the effort required to close the deficit ultimately took its toll, leaving him unable to launch a serious attack in the closing laps.
Nevertheless, another runner-up finish demonstrated the progress he continues to make within the Aruba.it Racing Ducati setup and highlighted his growing consistency at the front of the field.
Sam Lowes Claims Another Podium Finish
British Rider Leads Independent Challenge
Sam Lowes continued his impressive 2026 campaign with a hard-earned third-place finish for the ELF Marc VDS Racing Team.
The British rider started from the front row but initially lost ground when the lights went out, dropping behind his twin brother Alex Lowes during the opening lap.
The battle between the siblings provided one of the early highlights of the race before Sam reclaimed the position with a decisive move under braking at Turn 1.
Once clear, Lowes established a comfortable margin and spent much of the race running in a secure third place.
Although he was unable to match the pace of the factory Ducati duo ahead, he successfully resisted pressure from behind and secured another important podium finish.
The result continues an impressive run of form for the Marc VDS rider and further strengthens his position among the leading contenders outside the factory Ducati camp.
Alex Lowes Delivers Solid Fourth for Bimota
Consistent Pace Rewards Strong Weekend
Alex Lowes once again showcased the progress being made by the bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team.
After losing out to his brother during the opening stages, the British rider settled into fourth place and focused on managing the gap to the chasing group.
Throughout the race, Lowes displayed excellent consistency and race management, ensuring he remained comfortably clear of the battle for fifth position.
His performance further underlined the competitiveness of the Bimota-Kawasaki project, which continues to make significant gains as the season develops.
Tommy Bridewell Secures Career-Best WorldSBK Result

Former British Champion Holds Off Baldassarri Charge
One of the standout stories from Race 1 came courtesy of Tommy Bridewell.
The former British Superbike Champion qualified an impressive eighth on the grid and immediately capitalised with a strong launch off the line.
Bridewell climbed into fifth position during the opening laps and spent the remainder of the race defending from a determined Lorenzo Baldassarri.
At one stage, the British rider built a margin of over one second, but as tyre wear became increasingly influential, Baldassarri steadily closed the gap.
The Italian rider applied relentless pressure during the closing laps, yet Bridewell remained composed and error-free.
His reward was the first top-five finish of his WorldSBK career, a milestone achievement that highlights both his progress and growing confidence at world championship level.
Midfield Battles Provide Intense Racing
Bassani and Gerloff Locked Together Until the Finish
Further down the order, fans were treated to one of the most entertaining battles of the race.
Axel Bassani and Garrett Gerloff spent almost the entire contest separated by less than a second.
The pair exchanged sector advantages repeatedly as Gerloff searched for a way past the Bimota rider, but Bassani remained calm under pressure.
Ultimately, less than half a second separated them at the chequered flag, with Bassani holding onto eighth position.
Meanwhile, Yari Montella secured seventh place after another consistent ride for Barni Spark Racing.
Bautista’s Difficult Return Ends Early
Injury and Technical Problems Compound Frustrations
The race proved disappointing for double WorldSBK Champion Alvaro Bautista.
Still recovering from the ankle injury sustained during the previous round at Most, Bautista was already riding through significant discomfort before a technical issue forced his retirement.
His early exit deprived fans of a potential comeback performance and highlighted the challenges he faces as he continues his recovery.
Andrea Locatelli and Hannes Soomer also failed to finish after separate crashes at Turn 14.

Zaccone Claims Emotional First WorldSSP Victory

Last-Lap Thriller Denies Arenas at Aragon
The World Supersport race delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the season as Alessandro Zaccone secured his maiden victory in the category.
Championship leader Albert Arenas appeared on course for victory after leading almost every lap of the race.
However, the final lap produced a thrilling battle that featured multiple lead changes between the two riders.
Zaccone launched his decisive attack during the closing kilometres and used the strengths of his machine in the final sector to edge ahead.
The Italian crossed the line just 0.174 seconds clear of Arenas, securing a memorable first WorldSSP victory.
Tom Booth-Amos completed the podium after a strong ride that also earned him pole position for Race 2 thanks to the fastest lap of the race.
The result marked a significant breakthrough for Zaccone and provided one of the most emotional moments of the weekend.

Salvador Celebrates Breakthrough Sportbike Success

Kawasaki Rider Converts Pole into Maiden Victory
The opening Sportbike race of the weekend also produced a first-time winner.
David Salvador delivered a composed performance to secure his maiden victory of the season after a dramatic race that was interrupted by an early red flag following a crash involving Taiyo Aksu.
Following the restart, Salvador quickly established himself among the leaders but faced fierce opposition from Matteo Vannucci and Xavi Artigas throughout the race.
The battle intensified on the final lap, with positions changing multiple times as slipstreaming played a major role along Aragon’s long back straight.
Salvador ultimately timed his move perfectly, using the Kawasaki’s strengths in the final sectors to reclaim the lead before the final corner.
The Spaniard held firm to the finish line to secure a hugely popular home victory and kick-start his championship campaign.
Behind him, Artigas and Fenton Seabright completed the podium after another highly competitive Sportbike contest.

Ducati Dominance Continues as Aragon Weekend Intensifies
After another flawless performance from Nicolo Bulega, Ducati remains firmly in control of the WorldSBK championship battle heading into the remainder of the Aragon weekend.
While Bulega’s winning streak continues to grow, strong performances from Lecuona, Sam Lowes and several emerging challengers suggest the competition behind the championship leader is becoming increasingly intense.
With the Superpole Race and Race 2 still to come, rivals will need to find answers quickly if they are to halt Bulega’s remarkable run of victories and prevent Ducati from extending one of the most dominant periods in recent WorldSBK history.
