Championship Leader Secures Perfect Weekend in Italy While Thai Rookie Celebrates Historic First Podium
Maria Herrera completed a flawless weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli by claiming victory in Race 2 of the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship, extending her championship advantage and further cementing her position as the rider to beat in 2026.
After dominating Saturday’s opening race, the Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha rider repeated the feat on Sunday, overcoming another fierce challenge from title rival Beatriz Neila to secure her second victory of the weekend and maximum points from Round 4.
While Herrera and Neila once again fought at the front in a class of their own, the biggest celebration behind them belonged to Thailand’s Muklada Sarapuech, who produced a determined ride to secure her maiden WorldWCR podium and become the first Thai rider in championship history to finish inside the top three.
The result completed an action-packed weekend at Misano and provided another significant chapter in what is rapidly becoming one of the most competitive seasons in the history of the championship.
Herrera and Neila Renew Their Championship Rivalry
Spanish Stars Pull Clear of the Field Once Again
Just as they had done in Race 1, Herrera and Neila immediately established themselves as the fastest riders on the circuit.
Starting from the front rows of the grid, Herrera wasted no time taking control of the race. The reigning champion launched into the lead through Turn 1 and quickly began setting a relentless pace around the 4.2-kilometre Misano circuit.
Neila was the only rider capable of matching her speed.
The Ampito Crescent Yamaha rider stayed glued to Herrera’s rear wheel throughout the 12-lap contest, refusing to allow the championship leader any opportunity to relax.
As temperatures continued to rise across the Emilia-Romagna venue, tyre management and consistency became increasingly important. Both riders demonstrated why they currently occupy the top two positions in the championship standings, delivering a level of pace that nobody else could match.
Although Neila briefly looked capable of making a decisive move for the lead, Herrera remained composed under pressure.
The Spaniard expertly defended her position whenever necessary and consistently found a little extra speed in key sections of the circuit.
When the chequered flag eventually fell, Herrera crossed the finish line just 0.075 seconds ahead of Neila after another thrilling duel.
Despite the narrow winning margin, the pair finished more than 13 seconds ahead of the rest of the field, underlining their current dominance within the championship.
Herrera’s Preparation Pays Off
Championship Leader Leaves Misano with Maximum Points
The Misano round represented one of Herrera’s most complete performances of the season.
After securing victories in both races, she leaves Italy with a perfect points haul and a strengthened grip on the championship battle.
Herrera revealed after the race that significant preparation had gone into the weekend, including a focused fitness programme designed to improve her performance on Misano’s long straight sections.
The reigning champion admitted she expected a larger leading group but quickly realised that only Neila could maintain her pace throughout the race.
Her ability to control the race from the front, while also responding to Neila’s occasional attacks, highlighted the experience and confidence that have made her one of the most successful riders in WorldWCR history.
The double victory also marks her first Race 2 win for some time, making the achievement even more satisfying for both rider and team.
With Donington Park now next on the calendar, Herrera heads to the United Kingdom carrying considerable momentum.
Neila Keeps Pressure on Championship Leader
Another Strong Result Preserves Title Hopes
Although victory once again proved elusive, Beatriz Neila can leave Misano encouraged by her performance.
The Spanish rider pushed Herrera hard throughout both races and showed that she has the pace required to challenge for victories during the second half of the season.
Neila repeatedly looked for opportunities to attack during Race 2 but found it difficult to complete a clean overtaking move against the championship leader.
Instead, she was forced to settle for second place, matching her result from Saturday.
While disappointed not to claim a victory, Neila’s consistency continues to keep her firmly in contention for the championship.
Her ability to score heavily every weekend remains one of her greatest strengths and ensures the title fight remains alive heading into the next rounds.
Sarapuech Creates History for Thailand
Rookie Delivers Landmark Podium Finish
One of the standout stories of the weekend belonged to Muklada Sarapuech.
The EEST NJT Racing Team rookie has impressed throughout her debut season, but Sunday’s performance marked a major breakthrough in her WorldWCR career.
After narrowly missing out on a podium in Race 1 due to a post-race penalty, Sarapuech returned determined to make amends.
The Thai rider spent much of the race battling inside a highly competitive group fighting for third position.
Demonstrating maturity beyond her experience, she carefully managed the race, studied her rivals and launched her decisive attack during the closing stages.
Crossing the line in third place secured her first WorldWCR podium and a place in the history books as the first Thai rider ever to finish on a WorldWCR podium.
It was a landmark achievement not only for Sarapuech but also for motorcycle racing in Thailand, a nation that continues to produce increasingly competitive international riders.
Home Heartbreak for Ponziani
Italian Rider Misses Podium by a Fraction
Few riders left Misano with mixed emotions quite like Roberta Ponziani.
After earning pole position for Race 2 courtesy of her fastest lap in Saturday’s race, the Klint Racing Team rider carried high expectations into Sunday’s contest.
The Italian enjoyed a strong start and spent much of the race occupying third place, seemingly on course to reward her home supporters with a podium finish.
However, the battle behind her intensified during the closing laps.
Despite fighting hard, Ponziani was eventually edged out by Sarapuech and missed a podium finish by just over one-tenth of a second.
Although disappointed, her pace throughout the weekend once again demonstrated that she remains one of the leading contenders in the championship.
Ramos Recovers Strongly After Race 1 Misfortune
Championship Third Place Rider Fights Back
Paola Ramos entered Race 2 under pressure after crashing out of Saturday’s race while battling near the front.
The rookie sensation responded impressively.
After losing ground during the early stages, the Klint Racing rider mounted a determined comeback through the field.
Her aggressive but controlled recovery eventually earned her fifth place at the finish and valuable championship points.
Given the setbacks she experienced across the weekend, limiting the damage to her title challenge represented an important achievement.
Ramos remains third in the championship standings and continues to establish herself as one of the revelations of the 2026 season.
Strong Results Throughout the Midfield
Cerpa, Sanchez and Rivera Continue Their Progress
Several riders enjoyed productive afternoons behind the leading group.
Yvonne Cerpa continued her excellent rookie campaign by finishing sixth after another mature and consistent performance.
The Spaniard has steadily improved throughout the season and once again demonstrated her ability to compete inside the top six.
Sara Sanchez also enjoyed a positive race. Continuing her return from injury, the Hadden Racing Team rider improved on her Race 1 result by finishing seventh.
Natalia Rivera added more points to her tally with eighth place for Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha WorldWCR.
Wildcard rider Josephine Bruno recovered from a long-lap penalty to finish ninth, salvaging a respectable result after a difficult weekend.
Meanwhile, Race 1 podium finisher Chloe Jones suffered frustration after receiving a jump-start penalty. The British rider had been running strongly inside the top six before the sanction dropped her to tenth at the finish.
