Dominant Ducati Star Extends Unbeaten Run

Nicolo Bulega etched his name into the WorldSBK history books with a commanding victory in Race 1 at Balaton Park, securing his fourteenth consecutive win in the championship. The Italian’s relentless form continues to define the 2026 season, as he led an Aruba.it Racing Ducati one-two finish ahead of teammate Iker Lecuona.

Bulega’s latest triumph not only reinforces his position as title favourite but also highlights Ducati’s current dominance in the championship, with the manufacturer maintaining a perfect winning record so far this season.

Lights-to-Flag Control from Pole Position

Starting from pole, Bulega wasted no time asserting control over the race. He immediately broke clear of the field, building a gap of more than one second by the end of the opening lap.

As the race progressed, his advantage steadily increased. By the time Lecuona moved into second place on Lap 7, Bulega was already more than four seconds up the road. From Lap 8 onwards, the Italian shifted into race management mode, controlling his pace while maintaining a comfortable cushion to the chasing pack.

He eventually crossed the line after 21 laps with a clear margin, having led every lap and also setting the fastest lap of the race — further underlining his complete dominance.

Lecuona Charges Through the Field for Second

While Bulega controlled proceedings at the front, Iker Lecuona delivered one of the standout rides of the race. Starting from eighth on the grid due to a penalty, the Spaniard carved his way through the field with a series of decisive overtakes.

He gained positions consistently in the early laps before passing Miguel Oliveira, Yari Montella, and Alberto Surra in quick succession to secure second place by Lap 7.

Although he could not match Bulega’s pace at the front, Lecuona’s performance demonstrated strong race speed and determination, marking him as a key contender for the remainder of the weekend.

Oliveira Secures Podium After Early Battles

Miguel Oliveira completed the podium for the BMW squad after a hard-fought race. The Portuguese rider spent much of the opening phase battling with a group of independent Ducati riders before breaking free and settling into third.

Once in clear air, Oliveira maintained a consistent rhythm, eventually building a gap of over one second to the riders behind. His measured ride ensured a valuable podium finish and important championship points.

Midfield Battles Add Depth to Race Action

Behind the podium finishers, the battle for fourth and fifth was closely contested. Barni Spark Racing teammates Yari Montella and Alvaro Bautista pushed hard throughout the race, eventually finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Alex Lowes continued his impressive consistency this season with another top-six finish for the Bimota by Kawasaki team. His defensive riding kept Bautista at bay for much of the race, showcasing his experience and racecraft.

Further back, Andrea Locatelli secured seventh place, leading home Alberto Surra in a tightly fought midfield contest.

Championship Picture: Bulega Extends Lead

Bulega’s victory has significant implications for the championship standings. The Italian now holds a commanding 74-point lead over Lecuona, further strengthening his grip on the title race.

Sam Lowes, who sits third in the standings, endured a difficult race. A jump start penalty dropped him down the order, limiting him to ninth place and costing valuable points. He now holds a narrow advantage over Oliveira in the battle for third overall.

In the manufacturers’ standings, Ducati’s perfect run continues, with the Italian brand opening a massive 106-point lead over Bimota.

Bulega Reflects on Another Milestone Victory

Despite his dominant performance, Bulega admitted that Balaton Park is not a circuit where he feels entirely comfortable. The technical nature of the track forced him to adapt his riding style, particularly in sections requiring precise control and positioning.

Nevertheless, he praised the team’s work in improving the bike setup after a challenging previous day, which ultimately allowed him to perform at a higher level and secure another win.

Lecuona Confident After Strong Recovery Ride

Lecuona expressed mixed feelings after the race. While pleased with his pace and overtaking performance, he acknowledged frustration with earlier setup changes that affected his qualifying performance.

Still, his strong race pace and ability to move through the field give him confidence heading into the remaining races of the weekend.

Oliveira Focused on Consistency and Progress

For Oliveira, the podium result represents a positive step forward. He highlighted improvements made during the weekend, particularly in race pace, while noting that early laps remain an area to refine.

Collecting valuable data and maintaining consistency will be key as he looks to challenge for further podiums.

Superpole Recap: Bulega Leads the Way Again

Earlier in the weekend, Bulega continued his flawless qualifying form by securing his fourth consecutive Superpole of the season. His lap time of 1’38.094 placed him comfortably ahead of the field.

Lorenzo Baldassarri impressed with a career-best performance to claim a front-row start, while Yari Montella secured his third front-row appearance of the year.

The session was disrupted by crashes involving Danilo Petrucci and Stefano Manzi, bringing out yellow flags that prevented several riders from improving their times.

Supersport Drama: Debise Triumphs in Last-Lap Showdown

The WorldSSP race delivered another thrilling contest, with multiple riders battling for victory throughout the 18-lap race.

Roberto Garcia looked set to win after leading for much of the race, but a crash at Turn 15 on Lap 14 dramatically changed the outcome.

In the closing stages, Can Oncu led the race but made a crucial mistake in the final lap, running wide at the chicane and losing momentum. This opened the door for Albert Arenas and Valentin Debise.

Debise seized the opportunity, executing a decisive move at Turn 15 to take the lead and secure victory in a dramatic finish. Arenas followed closely in second, with Oncu settling for third.

Supersport Championship Update

Arenas’ strong performance sees him reclaim the championship lead, holding a 19-point advantage over Jaume Masia, whose race ended early after a crash.

In the manufacturers’ standings, Yamaha has closed the gap to Ducati to just 12 points, intensifying the battle between the two brands.
