The Circuito de Jerez‑Ángel Nieto witnessed another chapter in the Nicolo Bulega story on Saturday, as the Italian signed off his final WorldSBK weekend with a faultless lights‑to‑flag victory — his 30th of an extraordinary campaign and 50th at premier class level. There was also last‑lap drama in WorldSSP and a title twist in World Sportbike across a packed day of racing.

WorldSBK — Bulega Untouchable in Jerez Masterclass

Superpole — Record‑Matching Pole

Bulega laid the groundwork for his success earlier in the day, clocking 1’36.643s to claim his 11th pole position of 2026 — equalling the benchmark set by Ben Spies for the most Superpole wins in a single season. Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS) qualified a career‑best second, just 0.317s back, ahead of teammate Iker Lecuona. Alex Lowes (Bimota) was fifth, with Axel Bassani tenth — the only non‑Ducati riders inside the top ten.

Race — Lead from Start to Finish

When the lights went out, Bulega nailed the holeshot and immediately settled into a rhythm no one could match. He led all 21 laps, set the fastest lap (1’38.195s), and crossed the line 1.657s clear of Lowes — his 29th career WorldSBK win, and 50th victory across all world championships.

“It’s my last weekend in Superbike, so leaving with a performance like this means everything,” Bulega said. “The track is dirtier than last year and grip is lower, but it’s the same for everyone. My team gave me a perfect bike. Tomorrow’s weather looks tricky — we’ll do our best whatever happens.”

Behind him, Lowes held second through the opening exchanges, using a softer front tyre to build a gap over Lecuona. As the race wore on, however, that advantage eroded — Lecuona finding pace on used rubber and closing to within 2.853s at the flag.

“Jerez suits my style, but I struggled with front grip in the second half,” Lowes admitted. “Iker was coming at me hard. Still, to fight at the front like this after a difficult weekend last time out — I’m really happy.”

Lecuona, whose relationship with Jerez has been fraught with difficulty, was encouraged by his late‑race pace:

“I lost a tenth in qualifying and that cost me second. On new tyres I struggle, but as they wear down I’m one of the fastest out there. It’s something we need to figure out, but the signs are better.”

Further back, Alvaro Bautista produced his strongest performance in months. Starting ninth, he picked off Lorenzo Baldassarri at Turn 9 on lap three, then hunted down Yari Montella — passing him at Turn 5 with three laps remaining — to claim fourth. It was his best result since the Balaton Park Superpole Race back in May. Montella held on for fifth, with Alberto Surra sixth.

WorldSSP — Arenas Holds Off Alcoba by Half a Second

Fresh from clinching the title at Estoril, Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU) was pushed to the very limit by Jeremy Alcoba in a thrilling 18‑lap encounter. Pole‑starter Arenas led from the off, but Alcoba — who began closing from three seconds back — reeled him in over the final six laps, passing Can Oncu en route. At the line, just 0.533s separated them.

“I felt strong from the first lap,” Arenas said. “To win here in front of this crowd is really special. We managed the pace perfectly.”

Can Oncu finished third, just 2.261s off the winner, and now sits just one point ahead of Alcoba in the battle for third overall — with 25 points available in Sunday’s decider. Tom Booth‑Amos was fourth, 19 points behind Alcoba and still mathematically in contention.

Jorge Navarro (PTR Triumph) set the fastest lap — 1’42.053s — earning pole for Race 2, where he will lead Oncu and Arenas onto the front row.

World Sportbike — Artigas Takes Win, Salvador Crashes Out

The title race was blown wide open in the World Sportbike class. Xavi Artigas (MTM Kawasaki) took the lead on lap four and defended hard over the closing stages to win by just 0.096s from Ferre Fleerackers. The drama unfolded behind them: championship leader David Salvador crashed at Turn 13 on lap nine after contact with Carter Thompson. He rejoined but finished outside the points, handing Artigas a 13‑point lead with one race remaining.

Alvaro Fuertes secured his first career podium in third, setting the fastest lap to earn pole for Sunday’s finale. Salvador will start eighth — needing a fourth‑place finish or better to snatch the crown back.

“I defended with everything I had,” Artigas said. “Tomorrow might rain — anything can happen. I’m ready for whatever the track throws at us.”
