Spanish rider makes history as the first rider to win both WorldSSP300 and WorldSSP titles

Adrian Huertas, riding for Aruba.it Racing – Ducati, has been crowned the 2024 FIM World Supersport Champion, concluding an outstanding season with Ducati. This triumph marks a significant milestone for the young Spanish rider, who has consistently impressed with his unwavering performance and determination throughout the season. At just 21 years old, Huertas becomes the youngest-ever WorldSSP Champion, solidifying his place in motorsport history.

Huertas began his racing career in the Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup and the European Talent Cup during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He made his first major impact by clinching the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship in 2021. Since moving to the World Supersport (WorldSSP) class, Huertas has demonstrated continuous growth, improving with each passing year.

The 2024 season saw Huertas emerge as a dominant force in WorldSSP, securing an impressive 10 wins, 18 podium finishes, and 8 pole positions. His breakthrough WorldSSP victory came during the Pirelli Catalunya Round, and he followed it up with a remarkable series of three consecutive double victories at Misano, Donington Park, and Most. These achievements put him in the heart of a thrilling title battle with Stefano Manzi of Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing and Yari Montella from the Barni Spark Racing Team. The switch to the Ducati Panigale V2 played a crucial role in Huertas’ success, enabling him to take control of the championship and ultimately claim the 2024 WorldSSP title. With this victory, Huertas becomes the first rider in history to have won both the World Supersport 300 and World Supersport titles.

Looking towards the future, Huertas is set to embark on a new challenge in his racing career. He has signed with Italtrans Moto2 for the 2025 season, moving up to the highly competitive Moto2 class.

Reflecting on his achievement, Adrian Huertas from Aruba.it Racing – Ducati shared his thoughts:

“It’s been an incredible season because I had to fight so hard. These final races were especially tough as we faced many challenges. In the end, we did what was necessary—staying on the bike and scoring points. That was crucial, and today we have won the world title. This is an unbelievable feeling, being my second World Championship after the 2021 SSP300 title. I’m incredibly happy. I owe a huge thank you to my team for believing in me before this season, especially when I hadn’t even finished on the podium in this class. Many people doubted I could do what Nicolo Bulega did last year, but the team stood by me, and together we’ve become World Champions.”
