Ran Yochay, 511 Terra&Vita Racing Team
Nationality: Israeli | Age: 21
Profile: A pioneering young rider ready to take on big challenges.
Early Beginnings and Passion for Motorcycles
Ran Yochay, a 21-year-old from Tel Aviv, was drawn to motorcycles from a young age, inspired by her father’s love for racing. Growing up, she balanced multiple interests—dancing, horse riding, and playing the piano and guitar—before dedicating herself entirely to motorcycles. Now, she works as a riding coach at her father’s racetrack, where she trains both children and adults. Notably, she became the youngest female finisher of the Red Bull Romaniacs, one of the toughest hard enduro events, solidifying her status as an inspirational figure in motorsports.
Rising Through the Ranks: From Local to European Competitions
Yochay’s love affair with motorcycles began with a PW80 as a child, and she started racing motocross at just eight years old. She claimed the Israeli championship in motocross in 2017 and 2018, later winning national titles in supermoto in 2018 and 2019. At 15, she made history as the youngest female finisher at the Red Bull Romaniacs. Transitioning to road racing in 2018, Yochay has quickly made a name for herself. She finished 12th in the Women’s Cup SSP in 2021, sixth in the Women’s European Championship in 2023, and this year, she’s competing in both the WorldWCR and the Italian R7 Cup.
Adjusting to European Racing
Competing at the international level was an eye-opener for Yochay. “Riding in Europe was like entering another world,” she recalls. “The facilities, the professionalism—it was overwhelming.” Despite the challenges, she has adapted and thrived, making significant strides in her racing career. Yochay credits her experiences in Europe and the training she received in Spain for helping her grow as a rider.
The Red Bull Romaniacs Experience
Yochay’s participation in the Red Bull Romaniacs came after being inspired by a peer. Despite initial doubts, she trained rigorously for a year to prepare. The 2018 event, which marked its 15th anniversary, was particularly grueling, with competitors facing 250 km of mountainous terrain daily in torrential rain. Yochay was one of only 20 riders out of 500 to finish the first day—a feat she considers unforgettable. “It’s an experience I’m proud of, but I don’t think I’ll ever do it again,” she admits.
Admiration for Marc Marquez
Yochay deeply respects Marc Marquez, citing his resilience and determination as major influences. Watching the Amazon Prime Video documentary All In about Marquez’s recovery from injury helped her overcome her own challenges, particularly after a severe crash at Misano that left her with a concussion. “Seeing how Marquez bounced back gave me the strength to return to the bike,” she says.
Learning from Her Father
While Marquez is a role model, Yochay’s father has been her greatest teacher. “He’s taught me everything—from riding skills to mental toughness and team management,” she shares. Her father’s guidance, coupled with her mother’s unwavering support at every race, has been instrumental in her journey.
Promoting Motorsport in Israel
In addition to her racing career, Yochay is passionate about promoting motorsport in Israel. She collaborates closely with her father, who opened the country’s first road racing track in 2017. “Motorsport in Israel is still in its infancy, but it’s growing,” she notes. Their work focuses on introducing more riders to track racing and building up the national championship, which is gradually gaining participants.
Hobbies and Love for Travel
Outside of racing, Yochay enjoys surfing, working out, and exploring new places. Her travels have taken her to magical destinations like Zanzibar and Tanzania, where she experienced the joy and simplicity of life. “Seeing how happy people are with so little teaches you to appreciate what you have,” she reflects.
Current Standing
Ran Yochay is currently seventh in the WorldWCR standings, with her best finish this season being fifth place at Donington Park. She will be competing next at the Acerbis Italian Round from September 20th to 22nd at the Cremona Circuit.
