An Inspirational Rider from Kyiv
Iryna Nadieieva: A Late Bloomer with Big Dreams
At 29 years old, Iryna Nadieieva from Kyiv, Ukraine, is a woman of many talents who has made her mark in top-level racing despite starting late. A former gymnast skilled in wakeboarding and snowboarding, Iryna discovered her true passion for motorcycles and racing just four years ago. Now, she proudly competes in the inaugural WorldWCR, aiming to inspire young Ukrainians and one day witness a female MotoGP™ World Champion.
The Journey Begins: Buying Her First Bike
Iryna’s love for motorcycles started when she and a friend decided to buy a Yamaha FZ8 together. “I didn’t have enough money for my own bike,” she recalls. “I had never been on a bike before, and it was unforgettable. Motorcycles have given me the best feelings I’ve ever had in my life.” Once she fell in love with riding, it became clear that motorcycles would be an integral part of her daily life.
From the Road to the Race Track
“My story is ‘from the road to the race track,’” says Iryna. She started racing at 25 to improve her riding skills. Despite the lack of proper tracks in Kyiv, she quickly progressed from small bikes on karting tracks to competing at the elite level. In 2020, she entered her first race at the Ukrainian SBK, crashing on Saturday but finishing on the podium on Sunday. By 2021, she had secured first place in the Women’s class and second overall in the Ukrainian STK600 class. She now races on a Yamaha R1 in the Spanish Yamaha Cup, continuing to learn and improve every day.
Convincing a Reluctant Family
Unlike many professional riders, Iryna wasn’t encouraged into the sport by her family. In fact, it took years to convince them of her passion for racing. “My family initially took my hobby very badly,” she admits. “But I proved to them that women can be fast, that racing requires discipline and willpower. Now, they support me, and I know that many girls in Ukraine look up to me. This inspires me every day.”
Proudly Representing Ukraine
Iryna believes her participation in WorldWCR is crucial for her country. “Racing is at a very poor level in Ukraine,” she explains. “We have just one race track, built in 1973 and never renovated. I hope that my participation will increase interest in racing and help develop the sport in Ukraine. I’m very proud to represent my country. Ukrainians are persistent and hard-working, and I will do my best to be worthy of my country.”
Overcoming Challenges
In addition to convincing her family, Iryna has faced other challenges, including finding gear that fits properly and the right suspension springs for her weight. Despite these hurdles, she remains determined to excel in her sport.
WorldWCR Experience
Iryna describes the WorldSBK paddock as “very friendly and warm.” She appreciates the supportive environment and is thrilled to compete at such a high level. “It feels like friends who want to compete with each other. It’s absolutely wonderful.”
