Carrasco Triumphs in Action-Packed WorldWCR Race 2 at Cremona

Race 2 Highlights:

An electrifying WorldWCR Race 2 at the Cremona Circuit saw four riders locked in a fierce battle for victory. In the end, it was Ana Carrasco (Evan Bros Racing Yamaha Team) who claimed the win, her third of the season. Local favorite Roberta Ponziani (Yamaha Motoxracing WCR Team) finished second, marking her first-ever WorldWCR podium, while Australian rider Tayla Relph (Tayco Motorsport) completed the top three.

The race had an unfortunate ending for Maria Herrera (Klint Forward Factory Team), who led with Carrasco until the final lap. A thrilling four-way contest between Carrasco, Herrera, Ponziani, and Sara Sanchez (511 Terra&Vita Racing Team) resulted in both Herrera and Sanchez crashing out in Turn 11, allowing Carrasco to secure the win.

Tayla Relph, who had worked her way up from ninth, took the final podium spot after the incident, her first top-three finish of the 2024 season.

Rounding out the top five were Beatriz Neila (Ampito / Pata Prometeon Yamaha) and wildcard Avalon Lewis (Carl Cox Motor Sports), the latter impressing in her debut WorldWCR appearance.

Championship Standings Shift:

Carrasco’s victory and strong weekend performance propel her into the lead of the championship standings with 163 points, nine ahead of Herrera. Sanchez and Neila remain in third and fourth, with 128 and 107 points respectively.

Both Herrera and Sanchez were taken to the circuit’s medical center after the crash. Herrera suffered a neck sprain and was transported to Cremona Hospital for further evaluation, while Sanchez sustained a right hip abrasion. Sanchez was also handed a long-lap penalty for causing the crash, to be served in the next race at Estoril.

Early Race Crashes:

Several riders, including Mallory Dobbs (Sekhmet Motorcycle Racing Team), Jessica Howden (Team Trasimeno), Luna Hirano (Team Luna), and Sara Varon (ITALIKA Racing FIMLA), were unable to finish due to crashes earlier in the race.

Meanwhile, Alyssia Whitmore (Sekhmet Motorcycle Racing Team), who crashed in Race 1, was hospitalized but fortunately sustained no major head injuries. X-rays revealed a fractured wrist and multiple contusions, and she remained in the hospital overnight for observation.
