Michael Dunlop achieved a historic milestone at the Isle of Man TT Races on Saturday afternoon by clinching victory in the Monster Energy Supersport TT Race 1, matching his legendary uncle Joey Dunlop’s record of 26 wins.
Starting from third position, Dunlop surged ahead on the second lap, seizing the lead on the run to Ballaugh and ultimately securing his 12th Supersport win with a commanding 8.5-second lead over Davey Todd of the Powertoolmate Ducati team. Early race leader Dean Harrison of Honda Racing clinched third place. This victory marked Dunlop’s 40th TT podium, equalling Joey Dunlop’s illustrious tally.
The race commenced at 2:45 pm, with Harrison leading through Glen Helen on the opening lap, closely followed by Todd and Dunlop. James Hillier, James Hind, and Michael Evans completed the early top six. By Ballaugh, Todd had claimed the lead, with Dunlop in hot pursuit, while Coward moved up to fourth place.
Despite fierce competition, Dunlop’s exceptional performance saw him taking the lead at Ramsey, extending his advantage to secure a decisive victory. With a superb second lap, Dunlop further solidified his lead, crossing the finish line 8.5 seconds ahead of Todd, who achieved his best TT result. Harrison secured third place, while Hillier and Hind completed the top five.
Dunlop’s remarkable achievement adds another chapter to his illustrious TT career, cementing his status as one of the greatest riders in the event’s history.
