n a significant mid-season development, PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda and British rider Tarran Mackenzie have mutually agreed to bring their partnership to a close. The decision comes after the sixth round of the 2025 World Superbike Championship, with Mackenzie set to step away from the team for the remainder of the season.

While the announcement marks the end of an important chapter, both Mackenzie and the team have emphasized that the split was amicable and rooted in mutual understanding. Despite the challenges of the competitive paddock, the relationship between rider and team ends on a foundation of respect, gratitude, and shared history.

Mackenzie first joined forces with the MIE Racing project in 2023, competing in the World Supersport category. He quickly made his mark by clinching a memorable victory at the Czech round in Most — the first-ever win for the team, and a highlight that stands out for both parties. Building on that momentum, he stepped up to the premier WorldSBK class in 2024, remaining a central part of the PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda structure led by team principal Midori Moriwaki.

Throughout his time in WorldSBK, Mackenzie has been widely recognized for his work ethic, dedication, and team-oriented mindset. His presence was seen not only as a competitive asset but also as a cornerstone in the ongoing development of the MIE project — one that continues to evolve in the elite field of World Superbike racing.

The team has yet to name a replacement for Mackenzie, stating that further updates on their rider lineup for the remaining six rounds will be shared in the coming weeks.

Midori Moriwaki Reflects on Mackenzie’s Departure

“Tarran will always have a special place in my heart, and within the history of our team. Together, we’ve faced some tough moments but also created unforgettable memories — especially that incredible win in Most,” said Moriwaki. “He is not only a skilled rider but also a true professional and a genuinely kind person. Parting ways is never easy, but we do so with deep mutual respect and warm wishes for the next chapter in his career.”

Mackenzie Expresses His Thanks and Optimism

In a heartfelt statement, Mackenzie expressed his appreciation for the opportunities he’s had and the support he’s received.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Midori, Sandro, and everyone at PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda. We’ve had some ups and downs, but the positives have been truly meaningful — including that landmark Supersport win at Most and a top-ten finish at Assen this year, where I scored points in every race,” he said.

“Midori gave me the opportunity to come into this paddock and compete on the world stage. I gave everything I had to the project, always aiming to contribute in a constructive and committed way. While it’s difficult to say goodbye, I believe a fresh perspective might benefit both the team and myself as we look to the future. I’ll always carry the good memories with me and wish the whole crew success for the rest of the season.”
