Triumph Moto2™ debuts an updated gearbox and unveils an exciting new Triple Trophy prize in Thailand.

On Friday, 28 February 2025, Triumph unveiled its most significant upgrade since powering the Moto2™ grid: a new race gearshift pattern built right into its production gearbox. At the season opener in Thailand, the brand also introduced the new Triumph Triple Trophy prize—a Street Triple 765 RS identical to the winning Moto2™ rider’s bike—that will be awarded to the victorious rider and one lucky fan.

Triumph Unveils Major Gearbox Update for 2025 Moto2™ Season

For the 2025 season, Triumph introduces a significant gearbox upgrade—the biggest change since becoming Moto2™’s Exclusive Engine Supplier in 2019. The update features a race-optimized gearshift pattern, moving neutral to the top of the order and locking it out during racing, eliminating the need for riders to shift through neutral mid-race.

Triumph’s 765cc triple engines, derived from production models to maintain cost efficiency, previously used a standard gearbox layout with neutral between first and second gear. The new setup enhances performance by allowing seamless shifting between first and sixth gears, improving efficiency on track.

Engineering Innovation for Peak Performance

This update is made possible through a complete redesign of the selector drum, featuring revised tracks for optimal gear engagement. The component is billet-machined for ideal geometry, weight, and inertia while incorporating a mechanical neutral lockout. Riders can manually deactivate the lockout when needed in the pitlane or on the start grid. To accommodate these changes, a newly developed crankcase has been introduced for the 2025 Moto2™ engine.
