Martin halts Bagnaia’s charge as Oliveira claims Sprint podium for Trackhouse

Jorge Martin

The Sprint King extends his lead back to 15 points, Marquez vs Viñales goes down to a photo finish.

Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) transformed his pole position into a masterful Tissot Sprint win at the Sachsenring, increasing his Championship lead to 15 points. Despite a slightly slow start, Martin fought back to finish 0.676 seconds ahead of Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing), who delivered an impressive performance to secure second place and Trackhouse Racing’s first podium finish.

Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) completed the Sprint podium, minimizing the damage to his standings. However, the spotlight also shone on a thrilling photo finish for sixth place between Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) and Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing).

As the race began, Oliveira briefly led into Turn 1 before Bagnaia executed a daring move to slip inside both Oliveira and Martin, pushing the polesitter back to third. Martin quickly retaliated, reclaiming second place on Lap 2.

Meanwhile, Marc Marquez faced a tough challenge after starting 13th. The #93 made a solid start, joining his brother Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) in the battle for ninth.

Martin replicated his earlier move at Turn 1 on Lap 3, overtaking Bagnaia but running wide, allowing Bagnaia to retake the lead. A fierce battle ensued, with Martin making his move stick later in the lap, followed by Oliveira passing the reigning World Champion at the final corner.

Marc Marquez continued his charge, targeting Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) in the fight for eighth. The #93 overtook Binder at the end of Lap 4 and set his sights on Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Racing), who struggled as the Sprint progressed.

At the front, Martin began to pull away as Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) closed in, having escaped from Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) and Viñales. Martin extended his lead to over one second on Lap 12.

Further back, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) saw his point-scoring hopes dashed with a trip through the gravel, dropping to last position but managing to rejoin the race.

On the final lap, Martin maintained his lead over Oliveira, who secured a historic podium for Trackhouse. Bagnaia held off Bastianini, ensuring Martin’s win only increased his lead by five points. Bastianini settled for fourth, with Morbidelli taking fifth after pulling away from Viñales.

Binder and Alex Marquez battled to the line for the final Sprint points at the Sachsenring, separated by just a tenth and a half. For full results, click below!

After an action-packed Saturday, Sunday’s race promises even more excitement. Can Martin complete the double? Will Bagnaia bounce back? Can Marquez continue his progress, and will Aprilia stay competitive at the front? We’ll find out at 14:00 (UTC +2)!

Moto2 Q1 to pole: Vietti pips Dixon to Saturday honours

Celestino Vietti

For the first time since the 2023 San Marino GP, Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo) will start from pole position in a Moto2™ race. The Italian clocked a time of 1:22.778, narrowly edging out Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Polarcube Aspar Team) by 0.047 seconds. Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) completed the front row of the intermediate class in Germany.

World Championship leader Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI) will begin from a disappointing P12. A late crash at Turn 1 prevented the Spaniard from improving his time in the closing stages.

Just over a week after fracturing his right collarbone in Assen, Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing) will start from P11, one place ahead of title rival Garcia. The American is aiming to secure valuable points before the summer break.

With second-place title contender Ai Ogura (MT Helmets – MSI) qualifying in P7, Sunday’s Moto2™ race at 12:15 local time (UTC +2) promises to be an intriguing affair.

Moto3 Veijer sets a scorcher to deny Alonso and front Sachsenring grid

Collin Veijer

With a time of 1:24.885, Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) secured a dominant Moto3™ pole position at the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland. The Dutch rider outpaced title rival and World Championship leader David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) by 0.336 seconds, setting up an exciting start with the top two in the title chase starting from P1 and P2 at the Sachsenring. Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse) achieved his first Grand Prix front row in P3, although the Italian faces a double Long Lap penalty in Sunday’s race.

Dutch TT winner Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) qualified in P12 and will also have to serve a Long Lap penalty. Ortola is among 13 riders who received penalties for excessive slow sector offences in Practice 2, with punishments ranging from Long Lap penalties to pitlane starts for Sunday’s German GP.

After dropping to P3 in the overall standings last Sunday in Assen, Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) will aim to collect a solid points haul from P13 on the grid.

The lightweight class race kicks off at 11:00 local time (UTC +2) at the Sachsenring.
