Bagnaia produces Spielberg showstopper to defeat Martin as Marquez fights back to fourth

Reigning Champion Extends Lead with Victory Over Martin; Bastianini Takes Third as Marquez Faces Drama
The reigning champion increased his lead by five points after a victory over Jorge Martin, while Enea Bastianini secured the final podium spot. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez encountered some dramatic moments during the race.
Francesco Bagnaia Dominates at the Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich to Secure Double Victory
Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) delivered a stellar performance at the Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich, clinching victory and completing the double in style. The reigning champion engaged in an intense battle with Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) before taking control of the race and building a decisive gap. This win solidifies Bagnaia’s position as the Championship leader, extending his lead by five points and marking his 25th MotoGP™ victory, which ties him with Kevin Schwantz for 10th on the all-time premier class wins list. Martin finished second, earning a valuable 20 points to stay in contention at the top, while Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) took third place, securing his fourth podium in five races.
The race began with some drama as Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) struggled with a holeshot device issue, causing a slow start and a collision with Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) that left both riders outside the top ten.
Martin initially took the holeshot, leading Bagnaia, but the reigning champion struck back on Lap 2 to reclaim the lead. Martin briefly retook the lead, but Bagnaia immediately countered, setting the stage for a high-speed chess match. Bastianini held third place, staying within reach of the leaders.
Behind them, a battle unfolded among the KTM riders, with Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) passing teammate Jack Miller, followed by Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team). Marquez, after a rough start, began to claw his way back, tagging onto the battle behind Bastianini. However, Miller’s race took a turn when he slid out, leaving him out of contention.
Bagnaia continued to lead, with Martin close behind and Bastianini a few seconds back. Marquez, now in a fight with Binder and Bezzecchi, made his way up to fourth place with a decisive move on Binder at Turn 6 with ten laps remaining. However, the gap to Bastianini proved too large to close.
In the final laps, Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) successfully overtook his teammate Aleix Espargaro, while Morbidelli made a late charge to snatch eighth place from Espargaro on the last lap.
Bagnaia maintained his control at the front, crossing the finish line to complete the double and extend his Championship lead to five points over Martin, who secured second place. Bastianini rounded out the podium in third, unable to bridge the gap to the leaders but comfortably ahead of Marquez, who finished fourth after an eventful race.
Binder held off Bezzecchi to finish fifth, with Viñales taking seventh. Morbidelli’s late move earned him eighth, followed by Espargaro in ninth. Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) completed the top ten, holding off KTM test rider Pol Espargaro and Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing).
Takaaki Nakagami (IDEMITSU Honda LCR) finished 14th, the top Honda rider, after a late pass on Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3).
As the paddock heads to MotorLand Aragon, anticipation builds for the next showdown, with Bagnaia seeking to extend his winning streak and Championship lead.
