Angel Piqueras (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI) emerged as a race winner in 2025 after an electrifying last-lap battle at the Gran Premio YPF Energía de Argentina. The 2024 Rookie of the Year fought his way past the third-place finisher, Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo), at the penultimate corner, while Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) capitalized on the late chaos to grab P2.

The race began with plenty of action: Ryusei Yamanaka (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI) snatched the holeshot from the front row, although it was Alvaro Carpe (Red Bull KTM Ajo) who led at the end of the opening lap. David Almansa (Leopard Racing) also had his moments early on as a pack of 11 riders formed at the front, with the chasing group less than a second behind.

With just two laps remaining, Matteo Bertelle (LEVELUP MTA Team) held a slim 0.4-second lead at the front, which he stretched to 0.5 seconds on the final lap. At that point, it seemed as though neither Piqueras nor Rueda could close the gap—until midway through the last lap, when Piqueras made his move at Turn 7. Rueda followed closely at Turn 9, but then, on the exit of Turn 11, Piqueras went wide on the green, momentarily handing the advantage to Rueda. Not to be outdone, Piqueras lunged forward at Turn 12, carving past Rueda, while Fernandez seized the opportunity to overtake the Thai GP winner and lock in second place. In doing so, Piqueras clinched his first win of the season.

Elsewhere on the grid, Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) initially claimed P4 ahead of Bertelle, but his result was later overturned after he exceeded track limits on the final lap. Almansa recorded a career-best P6, while Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse) finished P7, and a recovering Joel Kelso (LEVELUP – MTA Team) managed to secure P8 despite having taken two long laps.

Yamanaka and Stefano Nepa (SIC58 Squadra Corse) rounded out the top 10, though local hero Valentin Perrone (Red Bull KTM Tech3) crashed out on the final lap, ending his promising weekend.

After a thrilling display in Termas, Jose Antonio Rueda now heads to Austin atop the Moto3 standings with his second podium in as many races, followed closely by Fernandez—just five points behind. Meanwhile, Piqueras, with his stunning win, jumps up to P3 ahead of Round 3.
