Gonzalez Dominates in Thailand as Agius Battles to P3
Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) delivered a flawless performance at the Thai Grand Prix, securing his first Moto2 victory of the season with pure precision. Aron Canet (Fantic Racing LINO SONEGO) put in a solid ride to claim second place, while Senna Agius ensured both Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP riders made it onto the podium—despite a Long Lap penalty following a controversial incident with Celestino Vietti (Team HDR Heidrun).
Early Stages: Vietti Leads, But Gonzalez Stalks
Vietti was the early pacesetter on his Triumph-powered Boscoscuro, but Gonzalez stayed glued to his rear wheel, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Agius, meanwhile, made a lightning-fast start and slotted into P3, setting up a three-way battle at the front. By Lap 12 of 22, Gonzalez had made his move and began pulling away, quickly stretching the gap to 1.9 seconds while Agius closed in on Vietti.
Drama Unfolds: Agius and Vietti Collide
Then came the turning point. Agius lunged up the inside of Vietti at Turn 10, and contact was made. Vietti slid out, Agius ran wide and lost time, and Canet capitalized, moving up into second place. With Vietti out of contention and Agius handed a Long Lap penalty, Gonzalez found himself with a comfortable three-second lead out front.
Final Laps: Agius and Moreira Go to War
While Gonzalez and Canet remained untouchable in P1 and P2, the fight for the final podium spot was anything but settled. Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team), who had passed Agius after his penalty, now found himself locked in an intense scrap with the determined Australian.
With three laps to go, Agius made his move at Turn 12, but Moreira struck back immediately at Turn 1. The two riders went wheel-to-wheel, swapping positions five times on Lap 21, before Agius finally made his decisive move at Turn 3.
As Gonzalez celebrated his dominant victory, and Canet secured a crucial second-place finish, Agius held off Moreira by just 0.251s to clinch third place and salvage a podium finish.
Top Finishers & Rookie Standouts
Behind the leading four, Marcos Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing Team) rounded out the top five, successfully fending off Barry Baltus (Fantic Racing LINO SONEGO) and Jake Dixon (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team)—who finished as the top Boscoscuro rider in Thailand.
The best rookie performance belonged to an impressive Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team), who finished P8 ahead of Filip Salač (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and Alonso Lopez (Team HDR Heidrun). Further down, fellow rookies Adrian Huertas (Italtrans Racing Team, P14) and Mario Aji (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia, P15) also secured points in Thailand.
