Motul Grand Prix of Japan: Key Quotes, Photos, and Highlights
The final leg of a thrilling MotoGP™ triple-header is here, as the paddock touches down at the stunning Motegi circuit for the Motul Grand Prix of Japan! After an exciting day exploring the famous Asakusa district and Sensō-ji Temple in Tokyo on Wednesday, Thursday’s media day was packed with action.
The press conferences featured top riders, including Championship leader Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) and title rival Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), alongside other stars such as Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™), and home hero Takaaki Nakagami (IDEMITSU Honda LCR).
As we head into race weekend, here’s a summary of the key takeaways from the day’s events:
Press Conferences: Motul Grand Prix of Japan
JORGE MARTIN (Prima Pramac Racing)
- On the World Championship battle:
“After the intense weekend in Mandalika, I still see this as a two-horse race between me and Pecco. There are five races left, and anything can happen, but right now, it’s Pecco and me at the forefront.” - On his readiness this year:
“I’m giving my 100%. Compared to last year, I feel like a more complete rider. It’s a pleasure to be battling alongside Pecco again—just like last season.” - On building a lead at Motegi:
“Motegi will be tough with unpredictable weather. I’m starting fresh and focusing on each race as it comes. Last weekend’s win was emotional, but now it’s time to reset.”
FRANCESCO BAGNAIA (Ducati Lenovo Team)
- On the Championship fight:
“From the start, Jorge and I have been leading the way. While others like Enea and Marc are still mathematically in the title fight, I believe it’s mostly between Jorge and me. Anything can happen in this season, but right now, we’re leading.” - On his rivalry with Martin:
“It’s the same battle, just with roles reversed from last year. I enjoy fighting with Jorge, as it’s always a fair fight. This season is about consistency, and Jorge has had the edge there.” - On Motegi:
“Motegi suits my riding style better than Mandalika. There’s lots of braking and acceleration, similar to Austria, where I perform well. I’m confident we can gain some points back this weekend.”
PEDRO ACOSTA (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3)
- On hopes for a podium:
“This track should suit the RC16 well, as we’ve seen with Brad and Jack in previous years. We’ve been improving steadily, and I hope we can get closer to the front this weekend.” - On winning in the final races:
“We’ve made great strides in recent races. Finishing in Mandalika was crucial after crashes in Misano. We’re gathering valuable race data and hope to continue progressing.” - On working with Aki Ajo:
“Aki is a huge asset to my career, and I’m excited about working with him more closely. His direct approach has always helped me improve.”
FABIO QUARTARARO (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™)
- On breaking into the top six:
“Misano was a positive step, and I’m aiming for another strong result. Motegi’s heavy acceleration points will be a challenge due to our power deficit, but I’m hopeful for a good qualifying.” - On bike strengths:
“We’ve improved in braking and edge grip. If we can get into Q2 on Friday, it could completely change our weekend.” - On future updates:
“Yamaha has already made significant strides with four different chassis in recent races. I hope the new chassis this weekend will help with rear grip.”
TAKAAKI NAKAGAMI (IDEMITSU Honda LCR)
- On his final home GP:
“It will be emotional, but right now, I’m treating this like any other race weekend. It’s special to race at home, but I’m staying focused.” - On his new helmet:
“This year, I’ve gone for an autumn-inspired design with the Motegi layout featured on the side. It’s a limited edition for the Japanese GP, and I love the new look.” - On his race targets:
“We’ve switched to a new aero package, which improves turning but makes the bike more unstable. Rear grip and wheelie control are our main challenges, especially on a stop-and-go track like Motegi. We have a plan to address these issues and hope to find a good balance.”
