“It’s a Privilege to Be Here”: #TheRematch Dispatch from Malaysia
With the title down to just two contenders, MotoGP™’s 2024 season finale is nearly here, bringing an electric air of anticipation to Sepang for the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia. Thursday’s press day set the stage, with both championship hopefuls, Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), weighing in on the high-stakes weekend ahead. Their Team Managers, Gino Borsoi for Pramac and Davide Tardozzi for Ducati Lenovo, also shared insights into the pivotal battle for the title.
Below are highlights from their press conferences, setting the scene for Friday’s action.
Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing)
What’s the feeling as you enter a weekend where you could become World Champion?
“First of all, my thoughts go out to everyone in Spain, especially Valencia. The storms have brought terrible news, so I’m sending all my support back home. As for me, I feel ready, and it’s truly a privilege to be here competing alongside Pecco. It’s intense to think we’re battling again a year later, especially with evenly matched bikes. I’m confident in my training, my work, and I’m here to give it everything I have for my team, my people, and myself.”
Do you feel additional pressure going into this weekend?
“Being here is a big honor. Last year, I was full of nerves, and Qatar had a similar pressure. I still feel it this year, but I think I’m more mature now. Yesterday, I took a moment to really enjoy this. Losing the title last year taught me it’s not the end of the world. I’m giving my all, but whatever happens, it’s part of the journey.”
Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team)
Is this a must-win weekend to keep the pressure on Jorge?
“First, I want to extend my sympathies to those in Spain and Valencia facing a hard time. We went through similar challenges in Italy last year, and I hope conditions improve soon. This weekend is crucial for sure, and we need to approach it with precision, just as we did in Thailand. Learning from last weekend’s mistakes will be key, and I’m focused on gaining more than three points this time.”
You seem relaxed—does this weekend feel different?
“The atmosphere in Kuala Lumpur was different this year; it felt almost like Qatar with the rooftop view. Pressure is always there, but I love this kind of scenario. Jorge’s in a better position points-wise, but I’ve been in this spot before. This year, I’m working on staying calm and finding the balance needed to perform under pressure.”

Gino Borsoi (Prima Pramac Racing – Team Manager)
How proud are you of Jorge and the team as you fight for the title?
“First, my thoughts are with the community in Valencia. They’re going through a tough time, and I send all my best wishes. For us, being in the fight against a factory team for another year is a privilege, and we’ll give our best in these last two races. It’s an honor to be in this position.”
What would it mean for Pramac Racing to clinch the title with Ducati?
“Our partnership with Ducati has been amazing. Last year, we made history as the first independent team to win the Team’s title. Now, we have a chance at the Riders’ title, and I’m incredibly thankful to Ducati for the support that got us here. We’ll give our all.”
Do you see a different Jorge this season?
“Compared to last year, the pressure is the same, but Jorge has grown. We’ve learned a lot about what it takes to fight for the title, and Jorge has strengthened his mental game. We’ve even incorporated mental coaching, which helps us prepare for these high-stress moments.”

Davide Tardozzi (Ducati Lenovo Team – Team Manager)
What’s your take on Pecco’s mindset this year, especially given last year’s experience?
“I also want to send my support to the people of Valencia. I went through a similar situation not long ago, and it’s a long recovery process. Speaking about Pecco, he’s a confident rider. He’s had an impressive season with nine Sunday wins, even though he’s trailing by 17 points. We’re giving it everything this weekend to win both races, and Jorge will surely do the same. I admire Jorge’s tenacity and sportsmanship; it’s what makes this competition great.”
How has Pecco’s experience shaped him for this title fight?
“Pecco’s previous years, including his loss to Fabio in 2021, have taught him a lot about handling pressure. This maturity has been instrumental as he faces off against a strong opponent like Jorge. Even though both have made mistakes this season, Pecco has shown he has the heart of a champion.”
Are there any team orders in place for this weekend?
“We haven’t discussed team orders with Enea, as he’s also in a fight with Marc for third. We’re letting our riders focus on their battles, as every position counts.”
With both riders and teams geared up for a thrilling weekend in Sepang, #TheRematch promises an exhilarating showdown for the MotoGP™ title. The action begins Friday, as Bagnaia and Martin put it all on the line in Malaysia.
