Damon Rees, BSB, British Superbike, Snetterton, racing

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship paddock community gathered at Snetterton this afternoon to pay tribute to Damon Rees with a minute’s silence.

Rees, who sadly passed away on Friday 30 June after a brief battle with illness, will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by the paddock. In March 2020, Rees arrived in the UK with his partner Talia, whom he recently married, just before the country went into lockdown. His arrival was supported by Carl Cox, a dedicated follower of his career.

Rees made an impressive debut in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship, securing two podium finishes during his first race weekend at Donington Park.

More recently, he competed in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship, coming close to a podium with a fourth-place finish at Cadwell Park last year.

This season, he was gaining momentum with consistent top ten finishes. Prior to his time in the UK, Rees achieved title success in his home country of New Zealand, winning the New Zealand Supersport Championship in 2017.

He then went on to finish as the runner-up in NZSBK the following season, while also competing in the Australian domestic series.
