In a memorable milestone, Glenn Irwin celebrated his 200th appearance in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship with a triumph at Cadwell Park. The victory came in the heated contest of the BikeSocial Sprint Race, as he adeptly fended off the determined Yamahas, with a mere 0.472 seconds separating the top quartet. This victory helped him narrow the gap at the pinnacle of the standings to a margin of 19.5 points.
As the race roared to life, Ryan Vickers assumed the initial lead, but it was Irwin who seized the initiative without delay. Navigating through the ranks, he surged ahead of the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha rider and Leon Haslam, capitalizing on their front-row positions to establish dominance.
While Irwin held his ground at the forefront, Kyle Ryde surged into third, closely followed by Jason O’Halloran. Regrettably, Haslam’s hopes for a podium finish were dashed due to a technical setback on the third lap, prematurely ending his race at Cadwell Park.
Vickers orchestrated a challenge for the lead on the eleventh lap, executing a move at Charlies, but Irwin promptly reclaimed his place. Swiftly regaining control, Irwin reasserted his authority aboard the BeerMonster Ducati before reaching Park.
The leading trio maintained a slight edge, but in the race’s closing moments, O’Halloran staged a comeback, narrowing the gap to his rivals ahead.
In a dramatic final lap spectacle, Ryde executed a skillful maneuver under braking into Park, snatching second place from Vickers. However, Irwin displayed exceptional composure and managed to preserve his slender advantage, crossing the finish line with a mere 0.118-second lead to capture victory in his momentous 200th appearance in the Bennetts BSB series.
O’Halloran, though closing in, ultimately settled for fourth place astride the McAMS Yamaha. Meanwhile, championship leader Tommy Bridewell secured fifth position, as his grasp on the standings was slightly loosened to 19.5 points, setting the stage for tomorrow’s twin races.
Lee Jackson navigated his Cheshire Mouldings Kawasaki to a commendable sixth-place finish, just ahead of Christian Iddon, who maintained his ground. The FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team pairing of Josh Brookes and Peter Hickman followed suit, concluding the top eight. Jack Kennedy rounded off the top ten for the Mar-Train Yamaha team, cementing an eventful chapter in the thrilling motorsport narrative.
