Ben Currie’s 2023 Quattro Group British Supersport championship win was a hard-fought victory at Donington Park. Despite a small early mistake that briefly dropped him to fourth place on lap three, the determined Australian clawed his way back up the ranks. On lap 12, he made a decisive pass on Luke Stapleford for the lead.
Currie then poured on the speed, steadily increasing the gap between himself and Stapleford, ultimately crossing the finish line a commanding 3.170 seconds ahead of his rival. To add to his joy, Currie secured the championship title with three races still left in the season, as his main competitors, Tom Booth-Amos and Rhys Irwin, faced setbacks during the race weekend.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Currie shared, “The last half of the season has been a dream. We’ve had an incredible run of 12 consecutive podiums, five wins, and I’m absolutely ecstatic. I don’t even know what to say; it hasn’t quite sunk in yet. I was so focused on winning that race that I almost forgot I could secure the championship. Now, the dream has become a reality.”
While Currie celebrated his well-deserved win, rookie Casey O’Gorman displayed remarkable skill by overtaking Eugene McManus on the final lap to claim third place, with McManus settling for fourth, closely followed by Dutchman Jaime van Sikkelerus.
In the GP2 category, Barry Burrell continued his dominant performance throughout the weekend on the Kramer, finishing 15th overall and clinching first place in his class. Cameron Fraser secured second place, with Harvey Claridge taking the third spot on the GP2 podium.
