History is Made At Thruxton British Superbikes

In a captivating display of prowess, Jason O’Halloran has etched his name in Yamaha’s annals, surpassing the record of triple champion Niall Mackenzie to become the manufacturer’s most triumphant race winner in Bennetts British Superbike Championship history. The triumph was emblematic of O’Halloran’s dominance, securing a treble of race wins in yet another electrifying chapter at Thruxton.
The Thruxton weekend resonated with success for the Australian contenders, with O’Halloran’s relentless mastery in Bennetts BSB complemented by Ben Currie’s dual victories in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship.
O’Halloran’s ascent to the forefront once again involved a determined climb through the ranks. Commencing the race from ninth on the grid, he faced a brief setback, finding himself in tenth at the close of the opening lap. Yet, with characteristic precision, the “O’Show” methodically navigated his way through the field, maintaining composure as he advanced. By the midway point of the race, he had ascended to seventh. It wasn’t until the final laps, however, that he unleashed his decisive surge.
On the 18th lap of the 20-lap contest, O’Halloran executed a calculated move on Charlie Nesbitt and Lee Jackson, propelling himself from fourth to second. Although Jackson, piloting the Cheshire Mouldings Kawasaki, fiercely retaliated and temporarily regained the lead, the McAMS Yamaha eventually emerged triumphant on the penultimate lap. With unwavering resolve, O’Halloran thwarted the counter-challenge, clinching the remarkable triple win.
This triumphant feat vaulted O’Halloran from sixth place in the standings prior to round seven to a formidable third position, setting the stage for the forthcoming Cadwell Park showdown on the August Bank Holiday.
The day witnessed a encore of success for Jackson and rookie Nesbitt, both securing their second podium appearances. Max Cook, in his debut Bennetts BSB season, matched his best performance, clinching an impressive fourth place.
Among the competitors, Ryan Vickers emerged as the leading LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha rider, attaining a commendable fifth position. Notably, Leon Haslam, steering the leading BMW, split the teammates, as Kyle Ryde crossed the finish line in seventh.
Storm Stacey delivered another commendable performance for Starline Racing Kawasaki, securing the eighth spot. The top ten was rounded off by Peter Hickman and Christian Iddon.
Despite a 15th-place finish, championship leader Tommy Bridewell retained his advantageous position atop the standings, albeit with a reduced lead of 26.5 points over his teammate Glenn Irwin, who is now in hot pursuit.
