Kyle Ryde Triumphs at Donington Park: Race One Highlights
Kyle Ryde demonstrated his resilience and ability to handle pressure in the first race of the second Showdown meeting at round ten of the British Superbike Championship, held at Donington Park. Despite a shaky start, Ryde managed to fend off his title rival Tommy Bridewell to secure his seventh win of the season.
Race Overview
Starting from pole position, Ryde’s only hiccup came with a poor launch off the line. However, he quickly recovered by the first turn, leading the race for the entire distance. This victory also helps him narrow the gap in the championship standings.
Danny Kent initially occupied second place but encountered issues when he got too close to another Yamaha rider, causing him to run wide at the Esses and fall back in the field. This allowed Tommy Bridewell to take over second, where he remained for the rest of the race, applying consistent pressure on Ryde and setting the fastest lap, which earned him pole position for tomorrow’s sprint race.
Key Performances
For 18 of the 20 laps, Bridewell stayed within striking distance of Ryde. However, in the closing stages, the reigning champion focused on maintaining his position rather than pushing for the win, finishing 2.071 seconds behind.
Glenn Irwin made a notable comeback, working his way up to the group that included his brother and successfully passing him. Andrew Irwin also applied pressure but ultimately did not manage to overtake his sibling. Glenn finished third, while Andrew brought the second Honda home in fourth, both over eight seconds adrift of Ryde.
Meanwhile, Danny Kent, who had dropped to twelfth, staged an impressive recovery aboard his McAMS Yamaha, climbing back to fifth by the time he crossed the finish line.
