A third pole for Herrera at Cremona
Superpole Recap:
Friday’s Superpole at Cremona delivered intense competition, with the top three WorldWCR riders separated by less than three-tenths of a second!
Championship leader María Herrera (Klint Forward Factory Team) claimed pole position with a 1’41.152 lap, narrowly beating local favorite Roberta Ponziani (Yamaha Motoxracing WCR Team). Ponziani, competing at her home track, set a 1’41.253 to earn her first front-row start of the season, finishing just ahead of Ana Carrasco (Evan Bros Racing Yamaha Team), who secured third with a time of 1’41.389.
Lining up on row two for Saturday’s race are Sara Sánchez (511 Terra&Vita Racing Team), Beatriz Neila (Ampito / Pata Prometeon Yamaha), and Pakita Ruiz (PS Racing Team 46+1), the latter securing her best-ever qualifying result.
Australian rider Teyla Ralph (Tayco Motorsport) impressed by finishing seventh after recovering from a crash during morning practice. New Zealand’s Avalon Lewis, racing as a wildcard for Carl Cox Motor Sports, finished eighth.
While the Superpole took place in mostly dry conditions, morning practice ran on a wet track. María Herrera, American rider Mallory Dobbs (Sekhmet Motorcycle Racing Team), and South Africa’s Jessica Howden (Team Trasimeno) were the fastest in the wet session.
Rider Quotes:
P1 | María Herrera | Klint Forward Factory Team | 1’41.152
“It was a tough session for me since it’s my first time on this bike here. I struggled in some areas, particularly on the straight, where I think I lost about half a second. However, I made up for it with my braking. There’s still work to do tomorrow on both the bike and my riding style, but I’m happy with our performance on day one.”
P2 | Roberta Ponziani | Yamaha Motoxracing WCR Team | 1’41.253
“I’m really pleased with today’s outcome. I knew I’d be fast, but I didn’t expect a front-row start. I didn’t realize María was behind me, so I just focused on pushing as hard as I could. I feel confident for tomorrow and believe we have the pace to compete for a win.”
P3 | Ana Carrasco | Evan Bros Racing Yamaha Team | 1’41.389
“Overall, it was a good day, though it was a shame the morning session was damp as it limited our track time. The surface was still a bit dirty this afternoon, but I expect conditions to improve tomorrow. Despite that, I was able to set decent times and felt comfortable in the wet this morning. I’m happy to be on the front row again and confident in my pace.”
