The OMG Racing UK team, the 2022 Bennetts British Superbike Champions, are excited to confirm their participation in the final round of the 2024 FIM Superbike World Championship. The team will be heading to the iconic Jerez circuit in Spain from October 18-20, fielding their riders Kyle Ryde and Ryan Vickers.
As the official Yamaha entrant in the British Superbike Championship, OMG Racing UK have secured 11 victories and 9 additional podium finishes so far this season. For the WorldSBK finale, the Cannock-based outfit will switch to a full WorldSBK-spec Yamaha R1, complete with Magneti Marelli electronics, with support from Yamaha Motor Europe’s Motorsport Racing & Development division.
Both Ryde and Vickers have prior experience in the World Superbike paddock. Ryde, the 27-year-old Nottinghamshire rider, has fond memories of claiming a maiden WorldSSP podium at his home round at Donington Park in 2015. Vickers, meanwhile, made a wildcard appearance in the Czech round of the 2022 WorldSBK championship.
The team’s decision to take on the WorldSBK finale comes as they enter the final stretch of the 2024 Bennetts BSB season. Ryde currently sits 19 points behind the series leader, while Vickers is fifth in the standings. The squad is leading the team’s championship and is well-positioned to clinch the rider’s title.
Commenting on the opportunity, Ryde expressed his excitement to compete at the iconic Jerez circuit, a track he has prior experience on. Vickers, too, is eager to leverage the learnings from his 2022 WorldSBK outing and battle for points finishes in Spain.
Team owner Alan Gardner and team principal Paul Curran both highlighted the significance of the WorldSBK wildcard, noting it as a chance to showcase the team’s capabilities on the world stage. They also thanked Yamaha Motor Europe for their technical support in preparing the WorldSBK-spec R1.
Yamaha Motor Europe’s Road Racing Manager, Andrea Dosoli, welcomed the OMG Racing UK team to the WorldSBK paddock, stating that the opportunity aligns with Yamaha’s philosophy of supporting the best riders and teams globally.
