Kent secures his maiden British Superbike victory, with Bridewell taking third and Ryde finishing in fifth.
Danny Kent Claims His First British Superbike Victory in Wet Conditions at Brands Hatch Finale
In a landmark moment, Danny Kent secured his first-ever British Superbike victory during the opening race of the 2024 season finale at Brands Hatch. The win came on a rain-soaked track, marking a memorable 100th race in the Championship for the Buildbase Suzuki rider.
Kent’s triumph was a standout moment in the British Superbike Championship (BSB), with his victory arriving after a string of competitive performances throughout the season.
Vickers and Bridewell Round Out the Podium
Ryan Vickers (OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing) secured second place, delivering a strong performance in challenging conditions. This race marks Vickers’ final weekend in the BSB, and he’s now aiming for more success in the remaining two races.
Reigning BSB champion Tommy Bridewell (Honda Racing UK) completed the podium in third. Bridewell’s solid ride allowed him to edge closer to Kyle Ryde in the championship standings, setting up an exciting fight for the title in the last two races of the weekend.
Ryde and Hickman Deliver Strong Performances
Despite a difficult start, championship leader Kyle Ryde (OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing) fought back through the field to finish fourth, just missing out on the podium. His recovery drive was crucial in maintaining his championship lead, with two races remaining to decide the title.
For the first time in 2024, Peter Hickman (FHO Racing BMW) finished inside the top five, delivering a solid result after a tough season. Hickman’s ride at Brands Hatch marked a positive turn in what has been a challenging year for the FHO Racing team.
Top Ten Standouts
Max Cook returned to form with a sixth-place finish for the Completely Motorbikes Kawasaki team. Cook’s ride was his best in recent rounds, showing promising pace throughout the race.
Two-time BSB champion Josh Brookes (FHO Racing BMW) crossed the line in seventh. While unable to match his teammate Hickman’s pace, Brookes delivered a consistent ride and collected valuable points for his team.
Lewis Rollo (Aprilia Racing) once again proved his wet-weather prowess, running in the podium positions early in the race. However, as conditions worsened, Rollo dropped back to finish in eighth place, still a commendable result given the treacherous track conditions.
Wet-weather specialist Storm Stacey (LKQ Euro Car Parts Kawasaki) secured ninth place. As this may be Stacey’s final weekend with his current team, his performance in the first race was a strong start to his farewell appearance.
Rounding out the top ten was James Westmoreland (Cumins by Team IWR Honda), who put in a solid ride to finish in the points.
Final Showdown
With two races remaining at Brands Hatch, the stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the British Superbike Championship. Danny Kent’s first victory has intensified the competition, while Kyle Ryde and Tommy Bridewell continue their battle for the 2024 title. All eyes will be on Sunday’s races as the season reaches its dramatic finale.
